It's odd how scientific leanings aren't popular in America anymore. Not long ago the people that sent astronauts to the moon were important people. Kids wanted to get into rockets and make things explode in their garage with chemistry sets. I figured those people never stopped spawning but the proportion of people going into the sciences in America is dwindling. Yet, people with scientific leanings must still be around doing something different with their lives than their predecessors. At least, these people must be taking a unique path through life that doesn't take them through college and into noticeable public sectors where people could immediately note their nerdy ways.
I doubt I'll ever figure out why so many Americans dislike the sciences nowadays and yet it's refreshing to still meet people who have a scientific view of the world. Often, I've heard that Engineers lack social and verbal skills such that it's common to be able to identify them based on their behavior. Contrary to this I find it pleasant that there are still people that can distance their pride and emotions and rationally explore something. Only twice in my entire life have I ever met people who were classic nerdy but rather I find that most people with scientific leanings appreciate the feelings of others. The only difference is that Engineers know when it's appropriate to look at things rationally and when it's appropriate to let their emotions flow. Even better than that, I think Engineers have a healthy balance of trained rational thought and unbridled emotional thought that are both used in decision making. |

So the wife and me head over to this store around 20 miles away and pass through scenic Van Nuys. We park and the area is decent enough but not lavish. What managed to disturb me though was that the store we went to was next to "OK Chinese Food". Nothing screams run in abject horror like a store front that lowers your expectations before you even look at their menu. Across the street was "Big Taco", which I can only assume would be a reference to the size of the portions rather than the quality of the fare.
Usually such things get a chuckle out of me and I move on until I saw a young Chinese couple in their low twenties enter "Okay Chinese Food" to get a bite to eat. That just made my jaw drop. I guess it makes sense since obvious this store is still in business but nothing scares me more than the thought of "Okay" food. I've been to enough Chinese restaurants that claimed to have awesome food that left me queasy after words so I can only imagine the horror that this place would inflict upon one's lower regions. |

Alriiiight, now people can read something totally useless (as if people read anymore!).
Now for the widsom I have accumulated over the course of my life: * Life's short, play hard * Cheerios will save your life, no really! * Guns make the world a safer place * If you believe anything I say, well =)
Anyhow, hope everyone has a safe blow up your friends and family day ^^. Saw many, many illegal fireworks shows here in L.A. Time to kick back, relax, and hide from your fellow man hehe. |
